Character Biography:
History:
From her Starfleet personnel file:

At least 10 years prior to the U.S.S. Enterprise-D's first encounter with the Borg, the Federation had some knowledge of the existence of the Borg, based on encounters with species who had been affected by them (such as the El-Aurians, whose homeworld was destroyed 90 years before). However, such knowledge was not made public among the Federation because information was too sketchy and unconfirmed to hold briefings with Starfleet personnel. (For example, there were descriptions of cube-shaped vessels, but no information on what Borg individuals looked like, other than rumors that they were cybernetically enhanced.)

Two of the people privy to these rumors were exobiologists named Magnus and Erin Hansen, who petitioned the Federation Council on Exobiology to let them travel deep into unknown space on the U.S.S. Raven to observe and study the Borg. Their petition was granted ca. Stardate 32611, in spite of Starfleet's concern about security issues, and the Hansens departed from Deep Space 4 toward the Delta Quadrant.

For eight months, the Hansens, along with their daughter Annika, tracked nothing but stray readings and sensor echoes, and in the process of chasing their theories about the Borg, the unconventional scientists deviated from their flight plan, crossed the Neutral Zone and disobeyed a direct order to return, effectively burning their bridges with colleagues back home. But then they detected a transwarp conduit from which emerged a Borg Cube. The Raven was scanned by the Cube, but the Borg ship did not alter course, apparently considering the small vessel neither a target nor a threat. The Hansens tracked the Borg Cube through the relatively nearby region of space for three months, when the Cube finally entered a transwarp conduit again. The Hansens followed in its wake, and found themselves in the Delta Quadrant — the Borg's native territory.

The Hansens designed a variety of new technologies to allow themselves to study the Borg up close without being detected. They developed multi-adaptive shielding to make the Raven virtually invisible to Borg sensors, and a "bio-dampener" to camouflage a visitor on a Borg ship, by creating a field around the body that simulates the physiometric conditions within the vessel. Magnus periodically made "field trips" to the Cube they were tracking to observe first-hand the behavior and interactions of the drones; he even gave them nicknames such a "Junior" and "Needlefingers."

The Hansens studied the Borg in this way for over two years, collecting 10 million teraquads of data. But then a subspace particle storm damaged the Raven and caused its multi-adaptive shielding to go off-line for 13.2 seconds, long enough for the Borg to perceive the vessel as a threat. In spite of the Hansens' attempts to hide in a nebula and mask their warp trail, the Borg caught up with the Raven as it crash-landed on a Class-M moon orbiting the fifth planet of a yellow dwarf star in B'omar space. All three of the Hansens were assimilated into the Collective at that time, including the young girl, who became the drone designated as "Seven of Nine, Tertiary Adjunct of Unimatrix Zero One."

Seven of Nine, formerly Annika Hansen, spent the entirety of her childhood as a drone, essentially being raised by the ruthless and twistedly harmonious Borg. At the age of 24, some 18 years after her assimilation, Seven of Nine was selected by the Collective to serve as a liaison between Borg and the U.S.S. Voyager, a Federation Intrepid-class vessel lost in the Delta Quadrant. The Borg was suffering dramatic losses in a conflict with Species 8472 and found collaboration with Voyager necessary for its triumph. It was in the midst of this battle that Seven of Nine came aboard Voyager and was severed from the Hive.

Captain Kathryn Janeway accepted Seven of Nine into Voyager's family as sort of her own personal cross to bear. She was perhaps the only person aboard Voyager who saw any sense in keeping the reckless and brash Borg on board. Despite several initial attempts to flee the starship and return to the Collective, Seven of Nine eventually adapted to her new human collective. Seven's journey to individuality and humanity would put a strain on the entirety of Voyager, her arrogant streak oftentimes leading her to clash with Captain Janeway. The relationship between Borg and Captain was a volatile one, but sometimes open hostility disguised a much deeper connection, a combustible attraction by which both women were surprised. Their eventual union was inevitable.

Four years later, Voyager found itself back home in the Alpha Quadrant, which left Seven of Nine facing a particularly challenging dilemma. The Borg were no doubt one of the most vicious opponents the Federation had ever known, and for Voyager to be returning with one as a member of its crew -- and also as its captain's spouse -- was a shock Starfleet was none too grateful to receive. Her future in the Federation remains uncertain.

Personality in seven words or less: Efficient. Cool. Blunt. Socially inept. Brilliant. Inquisitive.
How Others Perceive Your Character: Others could perceive Seven's to-the-point manner of inquisition and clipped speech patterns, along with her awareness of her own heightened intelligence, to be an aloof and cold form of arrogance. Without ever having lived as a normal human child, Seven often reverts to Borg mannerisms when she is unfamiliar with a situation, which makes most of her attempts at social interaction painfully awkward; she also has never learned of deception and discretion. She has not developed any societal taboos, which does not lend to others finding her an easy person with whom to converse. Seven does, however, approach most of the world with a sense of child-like curiosity and eagerness. It is very difficult for others to see Seven as a human rather than a living, breathing symbol of applied Borg perfection.
Beliefs, Convictions, Morals: Seven herself is unaware of her convictions; she is merely learning as she goes along. She lives more through the use of logic than that of morality.
Reason(s) for Escaping to Canada: Upon Voyager's return from the Delta Quadrant, Seven was treated rather like a speciman. She found their behavior to be most unsatisfactory, especially after Starfleet extracted her abdominal implants against her will. Little did Seven know that Starfleet took away her need to regenerate simply so that they could tuck her away in a temporal rift, placing the Borg 300 years in the past.. and in Canada. Out of sight, out of mind.
Their DHAs [Dreams, Hopes, and Aspirations] for Canada: To further develop her humanity and to find the most efficient means possible by which to exist in such a coarse and horrible period of human history.

Twenty-Questions for the Characters:

1. What turns them on: Efficiency, harmony, auburn-haired Starfleet captains.
2. What turns them off: Useless displays of emotion, laziness.
3. Would they see a shrink: Under Kathryn's direction, perhaps.
4. Worst Childhood experience: I have recollection of childhood, though perhaps the most obvious experience is my assimilation into the Borg.
5. Favorite Film: Film is irrelevant.
6. Favorite Song: Ancient classical music is pleasing.
7. Favorite Word: Irrelevant.
8. Least Favorite Word: Failure.
9. Favorite Curse Word: Slang language is inefficient.
10. Best gift ever received: Liberation from the Borg.
11. Sound or Noise they hate: Crying.
12. Sound or Noise they love: Kathryn's voice; the gentle hum of computers.
13. Do they know the answer to 64 million dollar question: Wealth is irrelevant.
14. [Complete the sentence] ... All the world's a stage... and all the men and women merely players, written by William Shakespeare, ancient English playwright. There is no relevance to this question.
15. Did Yoko Ono really break up the Fab Four: Who?
16. Chuck Norris or Bruce Lee: Once again, these questions are astounding in their absolute irrelevance.
17. Half full or half empty: Measured to the most precise milliliter.
18. Coke or Pepsi: Liquid consumption is inefficient.
19. If they were a Jellybean flavor, which one: I am Borg.
20. And, finally, if Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates? There is no scientific evidence that supports the existence of such a place, despite the amazing number of humans that follow this philosophy. However, with no scientific data, such a place cannot be expressly proven, therefore such speculation is irrelevant.

Anything Non-Canon that's Going Down [I.E. House and Wilson are married; Snape and Harry are getting slashy; Neil didn't die when the bullet hit him, etc]: Seven is married to Captain Janeway, and Starfleet disrupted the space/time continuum to be rid of them both.
